1) Total cost of ownership can creep up
Like most subscription platforms, Boomi’s costs scale with usage (connections, volume, environments). As your integration footprint grows, so does your bill. Model 3–5-year total cost of ownership, not just year one.

2) Performance at a very large scale
Boomi scales well for most use cases, but high-volume, low-latency scenarios (near-real-time flows across many apps) may require careful architecture, throttling, and optimization to avoid bottlenecks.

3) Flexibility has limits
Pre-built connectors cover common patterns. Niche or highly bespoke applications can still require custom work. Validate connector capabilities against your specific use cases (payloads, error handling, edge cases).

4) You may shift, not eliminate, vendor lock-in
Composable ERP reduces dependence on a single application vendor, but you’ll concentrate critical process logic in your iPaaS. If Boomi becomes the hub for dozens of systems, swapping it out later is non-trivial. That’s manageable, just go in eyes open and document everything.

  • Haven’t defined a target integration architecture (domains, master data ownership, error handling, SLAs). An iPaaS won’t fix architectural ambiguity.

    Map domains, master/transactional data ownership, golden records, and event vs. batch patterns. Decide what lives where before wiring anything.

    Version control, peer reviews, documentation, and promotion paths (dev → test → prod). Low-code ≠ no discipline.
  4. Treat monitoring as a first-class requirement
    Dashboards, SLAs, and automated alerts for failed/retried messages. Integration failures become business failures fast.
  5. Budget for growth
    Model volumes, additional connectors, and new environments. Negotiate flexibility in your subscription up front.
  6. Keep process logic in the right place
    Use Boomi for integration and orchestration, not to rebuild core business logic that belongs in your apps (or you’ll recreate the monolith in the middle).
